Disabled Cats As Pets

Domestic cats are absolutely ideal pets and companions, but if your well trained and well behaved cat runs into the road, and gets hit by a car and loses a leg? Or if your mild mannered cat is involved in a fight with the local bullying Tom and then loses an eye? Does this mean that the quality of life for the pet would be so low that the mercy killing would be kindness?

Disabled pets can also be loved in the same way as the other pets. Several gallant owners tell their disabled pets such as a deaf cat being ‘called’ in for the night by switching a light on and off. There are many pets that have lost their rear legs getting around and enjoying playing using a particular cart i.e. a pet wheelchair. You may hear a story of a blind cat, whose bravery becomes the inspiration for the whole new animal rescue center.

Cats with disabilities can also carry on enjoying a joyful quality filled life. There was cat named Basil, he met with a traffic accident, this result in the little fellow having one of his rear legs amputated, but the Basil’s personality had not changed a bit. There was little that he could not do after his accident that he was able to do before. Many pets did not realize that they had any disability, and for them you can easily say that the missing limb did not lessen the quality of the cat’s life in any way.

Many cats suffer illness or injury that leaves them with such a low quality of life that a vet would advice that permanent sleep would be a kindness, but you can easily find lots of examples of the cats like Basil, how they get on with their life and enjoy themselves.
